Trump urges DOGE not to fear budget cuts even if they prove unpopular

US President Donald Trump has called on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to continue reducing federal spending, even if such actions do not earn him popularity points on social media.
At the latest Cabinet meeting, his third since taking office, Trump commended the DOGE staff for their commitment to fiscal responsibility. Among the attendees was billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who also happens to be the head of the department. Apparently, Trump believes Musk can cut federal spending as effectively as he launches rockets.
“I have no idea how the public will react to this... but it has to be done,” the president stated candidly.
DOGE was established on Trump’s initiative to combat what he called "wasteful" government expenditures and to restructure federal agencies. In February, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was reportedly stunned by some of the department’s findings, describing unauthorized federal spending uncovered by DOGE as “shocking.”
Now, the department faces the difficult task of convincing Americans that fiscal restraint is not only beneficial but necessary.
